Abandoned Theme Parks

1. Tell me which amusement park featured in the two articles that you would like to visit and take your camera along and what about that park made you want to go there. Write at least a paragraph.

Holy Land, Waterbury, Connecticut, USA. I am curious to visit this place (and the Chernobyl accident theme park) because I have never heard of a theme park that was religious-based. The park has sculptures of Bethlehem and Jerusalem, which no other park has ever done. I doubt any ghosts reside in this park, but I do wonder what is in the park, since the target market would be those interested in the Holy Land.

2. Post one photo from that park. You may use the photos from the link, or you can google an entirely new photo. I would prefer to see a photo of the park in disrepair and not a photo of it when it was still operating.

3. Think of at least FIVE other unusual places you think would be of interest to photographers. List them.

The Prypiat Amusement Park, Pyrpiat, Ukraine (Chernobyl accident) - park taken over by nature.

Area 51- hardly doubt anyone has been there

Door to Hell, Turkmenistan - literally a gas crater

KÄ«lauea- active volcano in Hawaii

Challenger Deep - deepest place in the ocean

4. Use google or another search engine to research ONE of your five places and see if anyone has already started documenting that place. If you find that someone has already started - post at least one photo of their work.

A man named James Cameron began an expedition to Challenger Deep. I do not know if he took any photos, but according to The Guardian, he could have seen this chimera along the way, which sets an example  (at least to me) that the deeper the ocean, the weirder the creatures.

5. Write a paragraph about why you think that it would be fun to document that location. Tell me what interests you about that place and what kind of photos you could expect to take there.
Challenger Deep has rumors that life could be in the deepest part of the ocean. If a deep sea photographer wanted epic pictures, Challenger Deep would be the best place. The unknown is in the deepest part of the ocean, so anything crazy would be here.
6. Tell me what it would take for you to go and take photos at your location. What would you need as far as equipment goes, travel plans, expenses you might encounter and what laws you would have to take into consideration to take photos at your spot.

I would need deep sea diving or other aquatic training, millions of dollars for a submarine, scuba gear equipment and traveling. The laws I would implement if I managed to survive in the Challenger Deep the law I'd mostly use would be Simplicity because the darkness of the ocean creates a simplistic background, and Rule of Thirds or Balance to create a less static photo.
