Portraits and Portraits intro

After looking at these, find what you think are the best 2 or 3 tips and copy and paste them into a new post on your blog (I don’t need 2-3 tips from each site, but 2-3 total, but please look at all four sites).

Frame Your Subject

Include a prop/other people

When you go out to shoot these types of photos, there are three main types of portraits, the environmental portrait, a self-portrait and a casual portrait. Lets go find some examples of these types of images.
Google image search “Environmental portrait” and pick out 2 that you really like and post them on your blog. Tell me what you liked about the photo and why you picked it.

It shows the subject's usual environment, or workplace. I like the cake prop he carries.

This one has rule of thirds, and I like the attire and knives that act like a prop.

Google image search “photography self portrait” and pick out 2 that you really like and post them on your blog. Tell me what you liked about the photo and why you picked it.

I like how this one creates an emotion effect with the two scenes side by side, showing a lot of inferred emotion.

I like the creativity in this photo with the camera "shooting" the man. The camera acts as a prop that suggests the subject is a photographer.

Google image search “casual portrait” and pick out 2 that you really like and post them on your blog. Tell me what you liked about the photo and why you picked it.

I like the casual attire the subject wears, and the rough, torn jeans that make this photo informal. The sunglasses and tank top with the subject's bulging muscles infer viewers that bodybuilding is a part of this subjects life.

This photo shows symmetrical balance, and a woman in the center, highlighting her. The cars also act as leading lines towards the subject.

Please write a paragraph telling me your plan for your portrait assignment. Answer the following questions: who will you shoot, where will you shoot, and what will you do to make the shot successful.

For a normal portrait:
I could take a picture of my brother. This is usually the kitchen, where he eats and watches television excessively, or the living room, where all his colorful toys are that he plays with sporadically. I could use rule of thirds, or balance, and angle my shots. If he's angry or upset, that could make the portrait more dynamic and interesting.

Self-Portrait:
I will shoot at home, in the living room at the table where I do homework or on the couch that I nap on, since that's is usually where I spent most days in. I will shoot myself, using leading lines and/or rule of thirds, bringing in props such as homework papers that are unorganized, pencils, my phone and other distractions, some sign of tiredness. (environmental self-portrait).
