Welcome Back 2020: year review 2019

The Hong Kong protesters built up much attention across U.S citizens, seemingly showing no fear in their protests. This image shows this with the protester extending his arms in a response from the police officer aiming the gun at him, acting like a leading line to his expressive face.




The Notre-Dame cathedral burning caused a huge shock, and quickly spread interest amongst both the public and on the internet. I like how this image captures the bright colors of the fire highlighting the cathedral's burning.

This image of the black hole was (in contrast to most photos depicting political issues) became an internet sensation. The breaking of the basic rules of photography shows how a blurry, simple picture can have so much meaning and value to people.

1. What was the best song of 2019?




Old Town Road by Lil Nas X.
I chose this song to be the best song because it has grown popularity starting from a small video posted in 2018 to a fully developed music video and a wide fanbase in 2019. Lil Nas's instant popularity proves Old Town Road to be influential and one of the hit songs in 2019. I personally enjoyed the song, and never expected it reach such popularity ever since I watched the "prototype", the first Youtube video of the song with footage from Red Dead Redemption 2.


2. What was the best movie of 2019?
Toy Story 4



This was the best movie of 2019 as it was a recall to all Toy Story fans who watch the first Toy Story more than 20 years ago. I personally chose this as the best movie as it gave the Toy Story franchise a wonderful end with it's improved graphics and a plot contrasting the thematic message of being loyal to one's owner shown in the previous Toy Story movies.

3. What was the most important news story of the year?



Government Shutdown
This was the most important news story of the year as it emphasized our President's flaws, creating a huge, public shock during its time. I remember how my parents were surprised to hear of this, frequently watching CNN for any updates. The government shutdown breaking past records definitely influenced the common people to further observe Trump's actions.

4. Who was the most important person of 2019 in your opinion?

Hong Kong Protesters
These people showed a clearly strong opposition against China's decisions, showing that people did have a voice when collected and organized into one whole group. These protesters show much bravery, organization, and clear goals, similar to protesters led by Martin Luther King Jr. The most important person were these protesters because their quantitative numbers under one common goal makes them both influential and one voice.

#Team Trees

The TeamTrees fundraiser was the biggest entertainment story as several Youtubers, millionaires, and influential people pitched in to donate and share this story. Started by Mr. Beast and Mark Rober, two internet online entertainers, several Youtube stars I watch became involved in this fundraiser, becoming an influential 2019 viral entertainment story.

One thing that happened on my holiday that I will remember is our trip to Denver, Colorado. Seeing scenes of mountains and show and an increase in people wearing jackets compared to Austin citizens was very interesting.

My resolutions for 2020 is to be more considerate to others.

I look forward to new future drama/events in 2020.
