Not as sharp as taking photos up close.
4. Instead of using the HDR method which you will learn about next in my class, what is another technique the website suggest would be acceptable for compensating for sky and ground?

It can offer new perspectives on a familiar subject and offers multiple viewpoints that can be reached under a single visit.
7. Is subject or composition more important in landscape photography, WHY?
Subject is more important because it can affect/influence the composition's effect.
8. What is the suggested procedure to create simple, yet striking images?
Focus on what the main element/ attraction is, then analyse each other element included in the shot, ensuring that your eye is still drawn to the main element. Exclude elements that distract the focus of the shot.
9. Why black and white?
There are two weather conditions that perform better in B & W: (1) a heavy, cloudy sky, (2) fluffy clouds in a bright, blue sky (with landscape bathed in light).
10. Why would you want to go back to a location you have already been?
To learn more about the lighting and weather in that location -- and how those conditions affect ( or can give a different look to) the landscape.

- strong, waterproof trash bag to quickly cover the whole camera in rain
- Cleaning cloths for the lens glass and filters
- a microfiber towel for drying off the camera body and lens.
